Construction

The WS1 is the first product from a new, Thai-based company called 4GREER. The WS1 was designed specifically for Police as a light weight backup flashlight, and marketed as an EDC, Every Day Carry. The WS1 can also be used as a tactical flashlight. From the on position, twist 1/8 turn to power off. Place the little finger or pinky on the head of the flashlight above the rib or grip, and press the end of the flashlight with your thumb. It has a smooth bezel up the front with no crenellations. Manufacturer stated that the lens used is made of AR-coated toughened ultra clear glass. An orange rubber o-ring sits between the lens and reflector which acts as a moisture seal. The reflector has a light texture which is well polished with no flaws on its finish. The XR-E LED sits well aligned at the bottom of the reflector cup. The entire head seems to be made up of two separate pieces, and seem to be permanently adhered together. The exterior surface of the head has a clean cylindrical design. A large area is taken up by the 4GREER branding with an image of an owl's head. Towards the rear it has a thin band of knurling which help provide grip. The WS1 is a twist activated light, and switching is done by loosening the head to turn off, and tightening to turn on.

The battery tube makes up the second half of the WS1 and continues the clean cylindrical design matching that of the head. There are no aesthetic design elements other than a slightly recessed area towards the front end where the clip is attached. The clip attaches very securely and tight on the battery tube, with no risk of it sliding about. It also allows for both head-up and head-down carry depending on your preference or when you'd like to attach it to a cap for example. Threads on the battery tube are rather fine, but they're well machined and mate perfectly with those on the head. Towards the rear is a small hole for lanyard attachments, and the flat tail end allows the WS1 to tail stand with no issues. The entire light is made of 7-series aluminum which is harder than the more common 6-series aluminum which most flashlights are made of. Black Type 3 anodizing coats the entire surface of the light including for improved wear resistance. The manufacturer claims to have tested the WS1 extensively in real world conditions and advertises the WS1 to be "made for life" with a lifetime/10-year warranty (depending on your country), and also rates it to be waterproof down to 5m. While this might well be true, only time and continued usage will tell how well the electronics holds up.

Output

The WS1 is a simple, straight forward single mode light. Although it does produce different levels of output depending on which of the supported battery type is used, either 3.7V 10440 li-ion, or regular AAA cells. It's advertised as being able to output a peak of 100 lumens with its Q4-bin, WC tint XR-E LED. Tests showed it coming really close at 96 lumens which is pretty good for a light this size. Although this is only when powered by a 10440 cell, and the main drawback is very short runtime. The beam produces a medium sized spot with a neutral white tint. No discernable artifacts were noticed except for a light dark ring surrounding the hotspot. Regulation is maintained well for the most part, with initial brightness dropping slightly when running on regular AAA's while providing relatively better than average runtime considering its output brightness.

Conclusion

The Good - Well constructed parts, made to last. Simple, single-mode user interface. Compact size and reversible clip allows of versatile usage.

The Bad - Rather short runtime when running on 10440.

The Relative - Beam has a neutral white tint. Uses a twist switch. Is able to tail stand.
