The DBS is a light engineered for throw, hence the large head which accommodates its large reflectors.The emitter module fit and align very well with its reflectors which results in a well-focused beam. Externally, the bezel has a 6-point scallop and the entire head has a smooth, relatively clean design. There is a slight gap between the bezel and head even when they are tightly screwed on together. Type 3 anodized coating is consistent and smooth with no blemishes to be found. The threads between the bezel and head are smooth and well done. There are also 2 thick rubber o-rings between them which makes them fit quite tightly and provides a good moisture seal. The DBS comes with both a smooth and textured reflector. The reflectors screw into the bezel, unlike most other lights with drop-in reflectors. Also, the emitter module has to be unscrewed from the reflector and swapped as well. A glass lens and rubber o-ring sits sandwiched between the bezel and reflector. Now this is where I noticed the first issue with the DBS. The rubber o-ring which sits between the bezel and lens is slightly too small and sometimes slips out the front if you tighten in the reflector too much. The second thing I noticed is that the smooth reflector of my sample has a smudged area as can be seen on the right side of the image above. This was probably due to some finishing or polishing issues during the production of the smooth reflector. However, it doesn't seem to have any noticeable affect on the beam profile.

The main body of the DBS continues its simple and functional design. There are no unnecessary cosmetic designs machined onto the body. It provides a very comfortable and secure grip when held. A large area of the battery tube is covered with diamond textured knurling, and has 2 flat surfaces machined on it which have the DereeLight branding imprinted on them. There are 2 smooth, slightly raised rings machined on either end of the battery tube. The threads both on the head and tail ends are well done as well. They are thick, deeply cut and smooth. The threads on the tail end came slightly covered in machining dust, a quick clean with a stiff bristled brush will fix this. The internal diameter of the battery tube is wide enough to fit any protected or unprotected 18650 cells. Overall machining and coating on the battery tube is very well done, there really aren't any significant faults to be found. The simple, straight forward design works well for the DBS. The tail cap houses a forward push button which has fairly good tension, travel and provides tactile feedback when clicked on. The rubber cap covering the switch is thick and has a stippled texture. The DBS comes with both a GITD and spare regular black rubber cap. On the exterior, the tail cap has grooves machined on it which provides good grip and there are 2 small holes for lanyard attachments.

As mentioned in the beginning of this review, the DBS provides a highly focused beam profile. The hot spot is intense, while providing a relatively wide and much dimmer spill beam. Obviously this light is not meant for casual everyday use, its simply to bright and tightly focused. Its beam profile does have a slight dark ring around the hot spot when using the smooth reflector, but is totally smoothen out and also widened when using the textured reflector. The DBS is perfect for long distance spotting and does its job very well thanks to its large reflectors. Even the low level of the DBS 2SD has a hot spot that's even brighter than the high levels of some other single 18650 powered lights.

The 2SD circuit provides a low and high level via electronic control. Switching between levels is done by half-pressing the switch within 1 second. The last used level is saved into memory when you turn off the light. I did notice that the electronics produces a consistent and noticeable high frequency sound on low level. The circuit also has a protection feature for unprotected li-ion cells which causes the light to turn off when the cell voltage drops to 2.7V. The color temperature on my sample is a slightly warm white. Although the forward push button allows for momentary operation, it probably isn't a good idea to use it for rapid signaling as this would likely cause the light to switch between levels.

The Good - Extremely bright hot spot, good for long distance applications. Simple and comfortably designed body. Holds its regulation well.

The Bad - Rubber o-ring at the lens is too small in diameter and sometimes slips out the front end, thus compromising water resistance.

The Relative - Electronics produces produces a high frequency sound on low level. Beam has a slightly warm color temperature. Uses a forward push button allowing momentary activation.
