Although this module is advertised as a 3 mode module with an adjustable brightness ramping mode, it is in fact much more. The beam profile produced is quite nice, a smooth spot good for general use. Color temperature is slightly on the warm side. Take note that although this is meant to be a P60 compatible module, it doesn't work well with 2x CR123 or 2x 16340 cells which is why it's rated at 3.7V only. This means that if you plan to use it in a SureFire 6P, you will need to use a 17670 cell. You can actually run this module up to 2x 16340 cells totaling 8.4V input voltage from freshly charged cells. However you should not use the module at the high/100% levels as this will cause the emitter to be severely over-driven. Doing so you will see a noticeable tint shift to blue and output drops by half. Here is the breakdown of available modes.
Notes:
- Group selection is cyclical.
- Memory feature is available for all of the Modes. This means that whenever the light is left off for more than 1 second, the light will turn on the previously used level. Instructions below are for a reverse clicky switch. Memory feature still works after battery changes.
- A half press basically means turning off for less than 1 second, then on again.
Group #1: Low > High
Leave on Low, after 3 seconds light blinks twice. Half-press within 2 seconds of blinks goes to Group #2.
Group #2: High > Medium > Tactical Strobe
Leave on Medium, after 3 seconds light blinks twice. Half-press within 2 seconds of blinks goes to Group #3.
Group #3: User-defined brightness setting (ie. 0-100% ramping)
Leave on, after 3 seconds light blinks twice. Switch off for between 1 to 2 seconds of blinks goes to Group #4.
A half-press at any other time in Group #3 ramps up brightness. During ramping sequence, light blinks at 50% and 100% as a reminder.
Switch off for more than 1 second sets brightness level.
Group #4: Low > Medium > High > Tactical Strobe > "..-" (U.) Blink Sequence > "...---..." (S.O.S.) Blink Sequence
Leave on Low, after 3 seconds light blinks twice. Half-press within 2 seconds of blinks goes to Group #5.
Group #5: High > Medium > Low
Leave on Low , after 3 seconds light blinks twice. Half-press within 2 seconds of blinks goes to Group #1.
As you can see from the runtime graphs below, this module actually provides very good runtime. While putting out higher lux numbers than the Fenix T1, runtime is definitely on par. The regulation is pretty decent from a 3.7V input voltage source. PWM is used to control the lower brightness levels, and the rapid pulsing effect is noticeable when waving the the light around but not under normal use of illuminating objects.
