Construction

The 1 Watt LED Headlight is a mid-sized light with average weight. With the included elastic head strap it fits comfortably, the head has foam padding on the rear side as well. However, because there is only a horizontal strap and no vertical one, the light may slip during rigorous activities. What makes this worse is that the batteries are housed in the head as well, so all the entire weight of the headlight and batteries will be towards the front. If you wear this over a cap/hat, this slipping won't be an issue. The entire light is made of plastic. A clear plastic dome protects the LED's on the front. There are 5 LED's in total, a pair of red and white 5mm LED's on either sides and a high flux K2 LED right in the middle which is focused by a plastic reflector. There is a pivot at the bottom of the head which allows the light to vary its vertical orientation, a nice touch when writing on a table or working with things on low ground.

Output

The 1 Watt Headlight provides 3 output modes of light output which are cycles in sequence with each press of the switch. The main LED in the middle provides a high output focused spot of white light, while the LED's on either sides provides a spill beam of either white or red light. The white levels produce noticeably cool color temperature. There are quite a bit or artifacts in the beam profile and the focusing isn't very good either with the spot being somewhat lop-sided. Runtime is actually very good and regulation is maintained well when using NiMH batteries. The graph below scales the output to each of the levels to 100% since they are from different LED's and shouldn't be directly related.

Conclusion

The Good - Value and versatility. Simple user interface.

The Bad - Somewhat front-heavy.

The Relative - Beam profile has noticeable artifacts. White output modes have cool color tints.
