Construction

As you can see from this image, the emitter is nicely centered with the reflector. There's just a slight misalignment when comparing the left and right sides, with the gap on the left being slightly wider. Also, the gap around the emitter seem to be a little too large, which results in the reflection of the gold ring around the emitter onto the outer region of the reflector. The reflector has a slightly uneven surface which causes some warping effect of the phosphor reflection, however this doesn't noticeably affect the beam quality. Another note about the reflector is it's thin reflective coating, this allows some light to diffuse through resulting in a slight loss of light out the front end. Both the plastic reflector and lens has some tiny scratches on them.

When I initially saw images of this light on the site, I was attracted to it's design which was unlike other common 1x AA cell lights. The finishing looked to be great as well. However I was quite disappointed when I finally received mine. I could clearly see that it has small scratches and scuff marks all over it's body. There are also some really bad scratch marks on the "+" PCB contact. On the plus side, there weren't any sharp edges or machining debris to be found. The silver Type 2 anodizing is pretty even, with just minor blemishes here and there. Threads are alright and quite thick, but they don't fit very snugly and have some play between them. Knurling along the body and tail cap are all nice and even. There are two o-rings, first between head and battery tube and second between battery tube and tail cap. Both of which came unlubricated.

The tail cap houses a reverse push button which looks and feels nice and sturdy. The entire switch module is crimped inside the tail cap and can't be easily unscrewed. Clicking mechanism is moderately stiff and smooth. Stipple texture on the thick rubber button is a little sparse as well.

Output

Good output for a 1x AA light, just slightly dimmer than a LumaPower LM301 on high. It uses an unknown emitter which has "ZY-1" printed on it's star PCB. An average spot bright enough for close distance use such as searching around the car and walking around the house at night. The tints among these lights do vary quite a bit. One has a greenish and slightly warm tint, while another has a more noticeable blue tint. The spill is about 3x wider compared to the hot spot at 1m.

Conclusion

The Good - It's cheap, brightness is good for general use. Most of the parts aside from the switch module are easily removable by simply unscrewing, which would make this a good host for modifications.

The Bad - The machining on the body of this light is a little below standard. Marks can be found all over the metal body, the plastic reflector and lens, and even inside on the PCB. Lastly, the variation of tints among these lights is quite wide.

The Relative - The reverse push button, some people like it because it reduces the chance of accidental turn on while stored in pockets or bags, others hate it because it doesn't allow momentary on functionality.
