| 1x Cree XR-E Q4 WC Module |
| Construction |
This is a value priced P60 compatible drop-in module which fits in lights such as the SureFire 6P. It also fits in most of the UltraFire or similar lights which run on 2x 16340, 1x 18650 or 3x CR123 cells. The reflector has a medium textured reflector which is very well finished, it's just slightly off-center with the emitter. The emitter and electronics are housed in a separate module which screws on the back of the reflector. There's a rubber o-ring and plastic film placed between them to prevent a short circuit between the "+" and "-" solder pads on the emitter. The emitter is soldered onto a octagonal PCB. A good amount of thermal paste has been applied between the PCB and aluminum housing of the module. All parts of the module fit together very well, there will be no gap between the head/bezel when used in a SureFire 6P or similar products. |
| Output |
The Cree XR-E Q4 WC module has a wide input voltage range from 3.2V-9V which means you can run it on a wide variety of cells. It's safe to run 2x 16340 or 18650 cells fresh off the charger. The beam produced by this module has a narrow hotspot with a smooth corona. The corona is somewhat skewed to one side due to the off-centered emitter. The tint on my sample has a warm color temperature with a slight yellow tint around the corona ring. This module is quite noticeably brighter than previous budget priced drop-ins as it uses a higher Q4 bin emitter. The only problem I encountered while testing this module is that its circuit doesn't work well when running on a single 3.7V power source, such as a 18650 as shown in the runtime graph below.

| Conclusion |
The Good - Nicely made with good heat sinking. Able to run on a wide variety of cells.
The Bad - Slightly off-centered emitter which effects the corona in the beam profile. Fluctuating output when running on 3.7V power source.
The Relative - Warm beam with a slight yellow tint around the corona area. |
