Construction

The Neutron 2A has a stainless steel crenellated bezel up the front. This bezel is removable however the Neutron 2A is not meant to be used without it as it hold the lens in place. The lens is made of hardened AR-coated ultra clear glass. The reflector used is smooth and relatively deep with a surface finish which is impeccable. Lightly textured and well-polished with no residual machining lines and such. Externally the head has a cylindrical shape almost entirely covered in knurling.

The battery tube continues the design styling of the head, with a clean tubular design and ample knurling textured all over. A removable pocket clip comes with the Neutron 2A. It is held very sturdily when attached with a securing ring which screws in place holding down the clip. In addition, the clip also sits in a grove which means the clip will not slide around the tube. The tail cap is covered in knurling as well with two raised lips with holes for lanyard attachments. These also allow the light to tail stand. The switch is of the reverse push button variety, so momentary activation isn't possible. Mechanically the switch a rather short travel with average tension and provides a very positive tactile feedback accompanies with an audible click when engaged.

Output

The Neutron 2A has 7 output modes in total. Cycling through them is done by half presses of the switch. They are separated in the following order:

Loosened Head
Firefly > Low > Medium > High > SOS

Tightened Head
Turbo > Strobe

The beam profile produced by the Neutron 2A has a medium sized hot spot surrounded by a soft, relatively large corona area. The spill beam region isn't easily defined as the corona transitions almost complete with it. The result is a nice, evenly spread out illumination on your subject. Beam tint on the review sample has a neutral white tint, neither noticeably cool nor warm. Generally the 2A holds regulation decently, but for some reason there are odd intermittent spikes and dips during continuous usage.

Conclusion

The Good - Comfortable ergonomics and clean design. Range of output levels allow for varied use for almost any situation.

The Bad - Runtime is slightly below average. Maximum output is lower than current comparable offerings.

The Relative - Clean beam profile with a neutral white tint. Uses a reverse push button. Is able to tail stand.
